It's about 8am on a Wednesday morning that I start this journal and would you believe it? The sun is shining! I thought it had taken early retirement or summat. It has been really cold here over the last few weeks. Well, cold for us, about 3 celsius. With a lazy wind. You know the sort of wind that goes right through you rather than take take the longer route around.
Can things get any better? As I mentioned earlier the sun is shining, the birds are doing what birds do best ie: singing their lungs out and attempting to make babies. To cap it all, England have just beaten India at cricket. It wouldn't be over doing it to say they stuffed them.
I made mention the other day that I'm going through an eBay phase. I noticed last night that a jar of mayo had reached the staggering sum of £3,745! Below I reproduce the description. Funny old world ain't it?
Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo.
